Mubarak confers with Abizaid

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt yesterday in Alexandria met with the head of the US Central leadership, Army Gen. John Abizaid who arrived in Egypt in a 48- hour visit in conclusion of which he will head to Europe, according to the Middle East News Agency.
The agency said that the meeting took place in the Presidential Qaser al-Ten palace and was attended by the defense minister Muhammad Hussein Tantawi and the American ambassador in Egypt David Welsh. No information were disclosed on the content of the meeting.
The visit came after the return back of Mubarak from a short visit to Damascus during which he held talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.
