In a historical visit to its headquarters in Brussels, Elyawer demands the help of NATO

The Iraqi President Ghazi Elyawer yesterday asked NATO for more commitment to his country, especially with the approaching date of the elections expected in January 2005, which he stressed to be held within its set date.
Elyawer said during a " historical " visit to NATO headquarter in Brussels that " the matter is urgent because we are approaching gradually the date of the elections and making these elections in their due time is considered a challenge for us." He added "we are working day and night to honor the date of the elections in January 2005 and the elections will be held that date, unless the UN considers that impossible." Elyawer continued "we heard much of words of support." He urged NATO member states to " strongly give support to his country in the field of training security forces and the equipment in addition to providing " morale support." The NATO secretary general, the Dutch Yab De Hob Schiffer, promised to carry out the promise taken by the NATO members to providing support in training the new Iraqi army.
Schiffer said that " pledges are big and therefore I will make more pressures for this decision to be implemented." He added that NATO members are searching now to take part largely in training the Iraqi officers and it is decided that NATO ambassador will expand the expansion of the training process in a meeting to be held in Brussels today ( Wednesday).
Elyawer received an invitation to take part in a special meeting for NATO council, its supreme commission. the meeting was held at the level of the ambassadors of the NATO 25 member states. Elyawer, upon entering the meeting shook hands with all the 25 ambassadors but stayed longer for talks with the American ambassador Richard Burns and the British Peter Rektex.
