Mubarak in Damascus today
Egypt-Syria, Politics, 9/15/2004

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak will hold a short visit today to Damascus during which he will discuss with his Syrian peer Bashar al-Assad means of dealing with the UN Security Council resolution 1559 concerning Lebanon, in the course of practicality and realism, taking into account the need of starting the Syrian- Israeli negotiations on the ground of complete Israeli withdrawal from the Golan until June, 1967 borders, according to the spokesman for the Egyptian presidency.

The Middle East news agency quoted the official spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Majid Abdul Fattah as saying that the " talks between the two leaders will deal with several issues of mutual concern, especially the Palestinian question and means of supporting the efforts that Syria can give to the inter- Palestinian dialogue hosted by Egypt." The meeting will also discuss " the situation in Iraq, and the joint efforts that can be made in the framework of the Iraq's neighboring states group to work for achieving stability, security and unity for the Iraqi people and means of implementing UN Security Council resolution 1546 towards holding the Iraqi elections by the beginning of 2005 and forming an elected Iraqi government."

Abdul Fattah added that the two presidents will also discuss " means of supporting bilateral relations between Egypt and Syria and enhancing coordination and consultation towards current Arab and regional issues, especially the peace talks in Sudan, the situation in Darfur towards achieving the common Arab objectives and support joint Arab action."
