The US under secretary of state Richard Armitaj said yesterday the US is ready to amend its proposed resolutions to the UN Security Council calling for imposing sanctions on Sudan after objections in the Security Council surfaced to this effect.

Official spokeswoman for the Jordanian government Asmaa Khuder said that the agreement reached between the Muslim Brothers group and the Jordanian government, following the dispute resulting from detaining several mosque preachers " is a positive matter that falls in the general interests" at a time when the Muslim Brothers group vows its preachers will not violate the "state principles" in Friday's sermons.

Italy intensified yesterday its efforts to release its kidnapped citizens in Iraq. From Kuwait, the Italian foreign minister Franco Frateini started a Gulf tour in order to help in releasing them, while Paris said that the two French hostages in Iraq are still alive.
