Muslim Brothers: we will comply with state principles
Jordan, Politics, 9/14/2004

Official spokeswoman for the Jordanian government Asmaa Khuder said that the agreement reached between the Muslim Brothers group and the Jordanian government, following the dispute resulting from detaining several mosque preachers " is a positive matter that falls in the general interests" at a time when the Muslim Brothers group vows its preachers will not violate the "state principles" in Friday's sermons.

In a press conference held in Amman yesterday, Khuder said that "what was reached of an agreement between the government and the Islamic Action Front is a positive matter that falls in the general interest and in the service of the Jordanian democracy." She added replying to a question on the crisis between the Islamists and the government on the background of detaining unlicensed mosque preachers from al-Awqaf ministry "we do hope that everyone will abide by the verdict of the law." She continued "we look forward to have a legal democratic political life where there is no place for threats."

The Muslim Brothers group vowed that its preachers will not "violate the state principles " in Friday's sermons, following a meeting held by its officials with the Jordanian prime minister Faisal al-Fayez. The Jordanian official news agency Petra quoted the group's general observer Abdul Majuid al-Zuneibat following a meeting with al-Fayez on Sunday evening as saying that there is "commitment that the preachers of the group and the party ( the Islamic action party) will not violate in future the state's principles."
