Demands to release political detainees in Syria
Syria, Politics, 9/13/2004

A society in charge of human rights demanded the Syrian authorities release all political activists detained since September 2001.

In a statement, the society stressed the need of "closing the file of detention and not to hide behind the emergency state which our people have been suffering for 42 years." The society indicated that today coincides the 3rd anniversary of detaining a group of opposition figures who had called during the period known as "spring of Damascus" for democratic openness in the country.

The statement called for releasing 6 activists. They are two former parliamentarians Riad Seif and Mamoun al-Homsi, Aref Dalila and Walid al-Bunni who are still "behind the bars of Adra prison in separate cells since their detention."
