Al-Assad confers Burns and Rodman

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad received on Saturday U.S Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs William Burns and U.S Assistant Secretary of Defence Peter Rodman and the accompanying delegation.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the situations in the region, particularly in Iraq and the peace process in the Middle East. The two sides also discussed the issue of terrorism and the international cooperation for fighting it.
President Assad stressed Syria's support to the Iraqi people to preserve their national unity and restore independence, security and stability.
They agreed on continuing the dialogue and consultation between the two sides regarding issues of mutual interest as well as to reach proper mechanisms to achieve that.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara, Assistant Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouaallem, Syria's Ambassador to Washington Imad Mustafa and the U.S Ambassador to Syria Margaret Scobey.
