Two and a half million new mobile lines in Libya

"The Public Posts and Telecommunications Company signed yesterday Thursday contracts with two of the biggest specialized companies in the field in the world, for two and a half million new mobile lines, in a project designed to broaden Madar mobile Company's network," The official Libyan news agency JANA reported yesterday.

The report said "The contracts was signed by the Public Posts and Telecommunications Company and the French AlCatel, and the Finish Nokia companies. The contract is signed only three days after Libyana mobile company inaugurated its 60,000 mobile lines, would make the mobile services affordable to all Libyan people."

The Company sources told Jana reporter that the contract amounts to 175 million euros, and "execution period is twenty months, pointing out that the project network is the third generation which enables the customers to have access to the internet, and to send voice and images through the various mediums as well as purview of Satellite channels," JANA said.

The report added "The Finish Nokia company would implement West of Great Jamahiriya networks from Tripoli to the western mountains, whereas Alactal will implement east and south of Great Jamahiriya, the sources added."

The report said "They said by the end of 2005, Great Jamahiriya will realize strident steps in the mobile system, so that mobiles will be 80 mobiles per one hundred people," and that mobile services will be available to the most remote villages in Libya.
