Mubarak meets Hariri: Amending the constitution is a Lebanese question
Egypt-Lebanon, Politics, 9/9/2004

The spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Majid Abdul Fattah said following the end of talks between the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and the Lebanese prime minister Rafic Hariri on Wednesday that President Mubarak discussed with Hariri "the recent developments in Lebanon and the decision taken by the Lebanese parliament on September 3 to extend the term of office for the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud for one half of a term of office (3 years)."

Abdul Fattah said " we consider the issue of amending the Lebanese constitution as a Lebanese matter of concern to the Lebanese who make their own decisions on their own, therefore we consider that as far as there is a Lebanese national consensus, it is of concern to the Lebanese and we have nothing to do with it."

Before returning back to Beirut yesterday, Hariri met with the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Mousa, who said replying a question on the UN Security Council resolution 1559 concerning the Lebanese presidential elections that the UN Security Council implemented double standard positions when it voted last week a resolution criticizing Syria's role in Lebanon. It is the task of the UN Security Council to abide by the mission of keeping force especially in Iraq and the Palestinian territories and should deal with main issues pertinent to its specializations to following up keeping world peace and security.
