Deliberations of the Arab national conference start in Doha

Works of the 26th sessions of the general secretariat of the national Arab conference started in Doha yesterday with the participation of 57 media and intellectual figures from various Arab states.

The meeting discusses general political conditions, democracy and political reforms and human rights on the Arab arena. It also considered developing an Arab strategy for the media at a time when the freedom of the Arab press is being under unprecedented pressure. The meeting also discussed deepening cooperation between the different national, Islamic leftist and Liberal trends of the Arab nation.

The secretary general of the Arab national conference Maan Bashour said that the meeting comes in a very critical time when the Arabs are facing challenges. Some of them are external like in Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Sudan and other is internal pertinent to reforms and development. He indicated that the meeting is dedicated to discuss means to withstand challenges especially defying policies of occupation and hegemony led by the USA in the region.

He denied that this meeting is a political gathering, rather " a meeting place for dialogue among people who are influential in order to come up with constructive ideas." It is, however, due that the meetings of the general secretariat of the Arab national conference will issue on Friday ( Tomorrow ) a final statement including points agreed upon in the sessions which will be held along three running days.
