Egypt rejects an Israeli proposal to internationalize Rafah crossing
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 9/9/2004
Egypt has refused to internationalize Rafah border crossing which links Egypt to Gaza to be a triple crossing between Egypt, Gaza and Israel The spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Majid Abdul Fattah said that this crossing is standing since a long time and has its own consideration and should remain a crossing and a liaison contact between Egypt and Gaza, stressing that any step to change this position will not contribute to achieving peace.
Israeli sources disclosed Israel's intention to move Rafah border crossing by several kilometers from its current position towards the Palestinians - Israeli and Egyptian border point so as to tighten its control on the crossing after its due withdrawal from Gaza.
