General strike in Gaza over Hamas members killing; Qurei': reply to the massacre will be justified
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 9/8/2004
Scores of thousands of Palestinians yesterday eulogized the Palestinians who were killed on Monday in an Israeli raid which targeted a summer camp for the Palestinian Islamic resistance Movement , Hamas, in al-Shuja'eyah quarters to the east of the city.
The angry masses which carried the funerals of 14 Palestinian activists wrapped by the movement's green flags vowed to revenge the martyrs and the gunmen opened fire in the air.
A spokesman for Hamas threatened in the march to chase the occupation's hireling calling on the groups of Ezz Eddine al-Qassam, the movement's military wing to attack the "enemy" wherever it exists.
In a direct reaction to the raid, Palestinian activists yesterday fired Qassam missiles on Israel. One of the missiles fell on Sedrout town and this resulted in wounding one Israeli.
In an unfamiliar comment, the Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qurei' expressed his conviction that the revenge reply to the raid will be "justified." In a statement to the press in Ramullah, Qurei' described what had happened as a crime that "should not be kept silent over or accepted it.. And this is the reasons behind continued escalation."
He added "there is no unpunished crime..,This is a crime and it will be punished.. Sure there will be answers (reactions) and it will be justified." The Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath described in a statement, the Israeli attack as terrorist" and accused Israel of trying to foil the efforts aiming at restoring back calm to the region.
The Palestinian minister of negotiations affairs Saeb Oreikat said he made contacts with members of the Quartet ( the US, the UN, Russia and the European Union) and asked it to move in order to stop the Israeli military escalation.
On the other hand, Oreikat announced that the Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qurei' will meet members of the Quartet and the American envoy for the Middle East peace process William Burns next week to discuss the Roadmap and the peace process in the region.
