Syria's defense minister calls on army to defend the country against aggressions
Syria-Israel, Politics, 9/7/2004
Under the patronage of the Commander in Chief of the Army and Armed Forces President Bashar al-Assad, a new military batch of al- Assad Academy for Military Engineering students was graduated.
Deputy Commander in Chief and Defense Minister, Lt. Gen. Hasan Ali Turkmani, who represented President al-Assad at the celebration, delivered a speech in which he said that the Israeli officials' threats to hit Syrian targets have become a source of resentment by the international community.
"Those threats synchronized with the U.S. political escalation to intervene in the Syrian and Lebanese internal affairs under false pretexts, and the UN Security Council resolution No. 1559 which is backed by the U.S., is a bid to confiscate the Arab people's decision in Lebanon," Lt. Gen. Turkmani told the graduated students.
He added that Syria has been and is still seeking to achieve the just and comprehensive peace based on the international legitimacy resolutions, stressing that peace couldn't be achieved when Israel still occupies the Arab lands and practices the policy of hegemony and power against the unarmed Palestinians.
"The Israeli policies of killings, home demolishing and displacing of Palestinians will not affect our determination to offer more sacrifices and martyrs until we liberate our occupied lands," the Defense Minister concluded.
