A Sunni commission issues a Fatwa to release French journalists
Iraq-France, Politics, 9/6/2004
A-Arshiad and Dawa ( Guidance and call) commission has issued a Fatwa demanding the kidnappers of the French journalists be released immediately and not to be harmed.
The chairman of the commission, Sheikh Mahdi al-Sumeidi, said that the commission issued this Fatwa, as a gratitude for France's position towards Iraq.
The "Islamic army in Iraq" said that it and all resistance groups in Iraq are ready to abide by it since this will be in the interest of al-Jihad, Islam and Iraq.
In the same context, the French foreign minister Michael Barnieh announced that France has serious reasons to believe that the two French journalists held in Iraq are in a good health, expecting to reach what he described the positive end for the crisis.
Prior to his meeting with the French President Jacques Chirac to brief him with latest development, Barnieh did not rule out returning back to the Middle East at any time.
