Agreement by Libya to compensate victims of Berlin explosion

An agreement was signed yesterday in Tripoli between Libya and Germany providing for Libya's compensations to non- American victims of the explosion in the "La belle night club " in Berlin, Germany in 1986.

The agreement which was signed by the lawyer of the non- American families of the victims and al-Qathafi International Charity Foundation to pay $ 35 million in three phases as compensations for the victims of the explosion and not to chase the Libyans judicially.

Three weeks ago, the Libyan authorities in Berlin reached a settlement with the families of non- American victims of La belle Club explosion in Berlin in 1986. The said settlement stated to sign an official contract between the two sides in Tripoli.

The explosion which took place in the club which was trodden by American soldiers in West Berlin resulted in killing two American soldiers and one Turkish woman and wounding 260 persons many of them had permanent disabilities.

In 2001, The German judiciary announced that Libya and its security forces are greatly involved in planning for the explosion as from its embassy in East Berlin.

Libya had refused American calls to compensate for the American victims in the " La belle" explosion, considering that the Libyan authorities are the one which ask for compensation for the damages resulting from the American bombardment of Tripoli and Benghazi on April 15, 1986 which resulted in killing 41 persons and injuring 226 other.
