Meeting of dialogue between Azhar, Episcopal Church start next week
Regional-Egypt, Religion, 9/3/2004

Meeting of the annual dialogue between Al-Azhar and the Episcopal Church will be held next week with participation of Grand Imam Mohammed Sayed Tantawi and Canterbury Archbishop Rowan Williams.

Mounir Hanna Anis, Head of the Episcopal Church in Egypt and North Africa, said Williams is scheduled to deliver a lecture at Al-Azhar premises on September 11.

Williams, who would start his visit to Cairo within days, has demonstrated an attitude rejecting the war on Iraq. He set up a Christian-Islamic forum through which the Muslims of Britain may express themselves and the problems they face after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington.

The agreement on a dialogue between Al-Azhar and Episcopal Church had been signed in January 2002 in London.

The Muslim side in the dialogue committee is headed by Deputy Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Fawzi Al-Zifzaf and the Christian side by Anis.
