Washington may announce shortly Libya's commitment to its promises

A high ranking US official announced that the US hopes to announce this month, September, that Libya has fulfilled its promise to give up mass destruction weapons.

The American official noted the American effort to decide that Washington has a reasonable confidence to that Libya had met its commitments it announced on December 2003 to give up attempting to own nuclear, chemical or biological weapons. The American official added that Tripoli will continue working with the UN International Agency for Atomic Energy and with the chemical weapons banning organization. It added that Washington will continue its efforts to make sure of Libya's commitment to its promises.

The American official also expressed hope to decide on the issue of lifting Libya's name from the list of terrorism sponsor states with the fall of September 22. The date which Tripoli is persistent on.
