A strategic oil pipeline between Karkouk, Jeihan port was blown up
Iraq, Economics, 9/3/2004
An official in the Iraqi North Oil company said that a strategic oil pipeline linking Karkouk oil city and the Turkish Jeihan port was exposed yesterday to a large attack that resulted in halting oil exports from the northern part of the country.
The commander of the national guard in Karkopuk, Lt. gen. Anwar Hamad Amin, said that "one bomb went off in a strategic oil pipeline transporting oil to the Turkish Jeihan port near al-Riyadh city, to the south of Karkouk.
Pumping from this line was resumed last week for the first time since May at a rate of 600,000 barrels daily but stopped yesterday once again because of the explosion.
