Yemeni army fighting continue with al-Houthi supporters
Yemen, Politics, 9/3/2004

Tribal sources in Yemen announced the killing or wounding of at least 50 persons during one week of violent fighting between the Yemeni army and the supporters of the Islamic advocate Hussein Bader Eddine al-Houthi.

The sources stressed that scores of killed and injured in the lines of the followers of al-Houthi and the Yemeni police and army forces fell during frequent clashes during the past four days. The new clashes took place when the army tried to infiltrate into one of the positions of Abdullah al-Ruzami and his supporters of al-Houthi followers in the areas of Al-Shafeya, al-Hamzat and al-Razami.

Security sources in Sadaah province to the northern west of Yemen said that the security forces during the past days, backed by army units carried out vast campaigns of arrest that covered hundreds of al-Houthi supporters and suspected persons of having links with him.

A Yemeni military source in Marran mountain disclosed continued chasing campaigns of al-Houthi after the army forces were deployed in his main positions in al-Jmeimah village, almost since two week.

The source added that the army forces suspect that al-Houthi is hiding together with his followers in a fortified area known as "Salman rift" where army and security units could impose a tightened siege.

A well-informed security source in Sanaa said that the security forces discovered what he described as a vast destructive plan, al-Houthi intended together with his followers to launch in attacks in Sanaa, Sadaah and other Yemeni area. The source explained that the plan was discovered in documents found with followers of al-Houthi.

However, confrontations taking place between the army and al-Houthi supporters resulted in killing 400 persons since July 18. N.
