Lebanon debates foreign interventions
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 9/3/2004
Lebanese President Emile Lahoud Thursday conferred with Lebanese Defense Minister Mahmoud Hammoud and Lebanese State Minister Karam Karam, separately, on the Lebanese foreign diplomatic move to confront foreign interventions in the internal affairs and in the Syrian-Lebanese relation.
Following the meeting, Hammoud said any drive in the UN Security Council to discuss the Lebanese presidency issue is a dangerous precedent that contradicts UN convention.
He added pressures on Syria and Lebanon target the Lebanese firm stances that come in harmony with the Syrian stances.
In this context, the Syrian-Lebanese Parliamentary Committee rejected the foreign interference in the Lebanese internal affairs and in the bilateral relations between the two states.
During a meeting at Lebanese Parliament in Beirut led by Lebanese Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri, the Committee said those bids of interference and pressure come in anticipation with Israeli threats against Syria and Lebanon.
Berri called for exerting and intensifying efforts to face pressures Syria and Lebanon are exposed to.
