Fischer after meeting with Mubarak in Alexandria: the Palestinians have to collaborate to implementing separation plan

The German Foreign minister Joschka Fischer called following talks he had held in Alexandria with the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on the Palestinians to " collaborate" in order to implement the plan of the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon to withdraw from Gaza and four Israeli settlements in the west Bank.

Fischer told journalists after his meeting with Mubarak in Qaser Ras al-Tin palace in Alexandria that the Palestinians should "work towards more cooperation " in order to achieve the withdrawal plan from Gaza. The German minister was replying a question on how the Palestinians fear of Sharon's plan because there are no guarantees for withdrawal from the West Bank. Fischer added that the European Union is ready to help in implementing this plan but he stressed " the matter is greatly depends on two sides."

He continued that he had " conveyed to the Israeli side that withdrawal from Gaza alone is not enough." The German minister also said that he "talked " with the Israeli official on the question of the Palestinian prisoners who are observing a hunger strike in protest of their detention conditions.

Worthy mentioning that Fischer stressed on Monday following talks with Israeli officials in Jerusalem that the unilateral withdrawal plan from Gaza is " an opportunity which should not be misses," stressing that this plan should not be limited to withdrawal from Gaza " because Europe is committed to Roadmap which states freezing settlements."

Fischer stressed that his talks with Mubarak dealt, in addition to regional issues especially the Palestinian question and the plan to disengagement in Gaza, the situation in Iraq and the issue of reforms. It also dealt with the situation in Sudan and bilateral relations. On Tuesday evening Fischer met with the Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qurei' currently visiting Egypt.
