Lebanese rejection to west criticism of the presidency term of office extension issue
Lebanon-Regional, Politics, 8/31/2004

Lebanese Foreign Minister Jean Obeid Monday criticized the West intervention in the Lebanese internal affairs.

" It is important to separate between the issue of the integrated relation between Syria and Lebanon, and with some of the internal political issues and the mechanism of dealing with them," Obeid said in a statement in Beirut.

He declared Lebanon rejects "bids of intervention whether in the political internal issue or in the side related to the fraternity and cooperation relations with sisterly Syria."

For his part, Lebanese Minister of Administration development Karem Bakradoni said the Cabinet decision to refer a draft resolution to amend the constitution constitutes an assurance for continuing the internal stability in Lebanon and resisting the plots of the Israeli occupation.

In a statement, Bakradoni warned against any bid to issue a resolution by UN Security Council regarding the presidency elections in Lebanon, stressing that such bids are an intervention in the Lebanese affairs and in the Syrian-Lebanese ties.

The two MPs Muhammad Baidon and Jihad al-Samad also stressed the necessity of enhancing the strategic relations between Syria and Lebanon to confront the plots which target the region, referring to the Syrian stance that supported the Lebanese National Resistance and Lebanese institutions.
