An attack on southern Iraq oil pipeline, exports reduced
Iraq, Economics, 8/30/2004
Employees in the southern Iraq oil company announced that the country's south oil pipeline was attacked on Sunday at dawn, just few kilometers from a position where 8 oil pipelines were attacked on Wednesday.
However, Iraq continued its oil exports on Sunday at rates less than the average while authorities concerned are working to repair oil pipelines which were attacked earlier, according to a naval representative.
The representative explained that two oil tankers "Hyundai Star" and "Front Vanguard " are loaded in Basra oil field but no ships are loaded at Khour al-Amya port.
One official in the southern Iraq oil company announced that one oil pipeline inside the southern oil field was blown up in the most recent attack within a series of attacks that targeted oil infrastructure and led to the reduction in oil exports in Iraq by half.
Five ministers in the Interim Iraqi government visited Najaf city to the south of the country on Saturday and discussed plans to rebuild the city following weeks of fighting resulted in killing hundreds and led to record levels in oil prices.
The Iraqi oil exports reached two million barrels per day, last week and contributed to a recession in the world oil prices.
