Mandela, Clark expected to join defense of Saddam
Iraq-Regional, Politics, 8/27/2004
The general coordinator of the commission in charge of defending the toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Muhammad al-Rashdan said that there is a possibility that former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark will join the defendant commission for Saddam Hussein.
In a statement, al-Rashdan said that the commission in defense of Saddam Hussein sent an official message to Clark four days ago inviting him to join the defendant commission for Saddam.
Al-Rashdan considered that Clark joining the defendant commission will constitute a great morale support thanks to his considerable weight inside the USA and in his objection to the occupation of Iraq.
On threats lawyers for Saddam Hussein receive, he stressed that the defendant commission in Amman receives new death threats from officials in the Iraqi government.
On the other hand, another member in the defendant commission, the Jordanian lawyer Ziad al- Najdawi said that the committee expects the former President of south African Nelson Mandela to join the commission. He said in a statement he had contacted Mandela and felt positive indicators to his approval to announce consent to join the defendant commission shortly.
