Khartoum accepts conditions of deployment of African forces in Darfur
Sudan-Regional, Politics, 8/26/2004

The Sudanese government delegation to the peace talks on Darfur currently held in Abuja announced the readiness of Khartoum to accept the increase in the size of African Union forces used in Darfur but under the condition that these forces are to be used for dismantling the weapons of rebels.

The head of delegation, minister of agriculture Majzoub al-Khaleifa said that the African Union might be in need of additional forces beside the forces in charge of protecting the observers of the cease fire, but he stressed that protection of civilians in the area is to be the responsibility of the Sudanese government.
