Arab human rights organizations deplores Israeli practices
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 8/24/2004

Arab and Lebanese human rights and jurist organizations Monday condemned the torture practices adopted by the Israeli occupation troops against Arab and Palestinian captives, adding those practices are a violation of the international conventions and norms.

In a joint statement in Beirut, the organizations expressed "deep concern over the inhuman practices against the Palestinian detainees," showing solidarity with the "Palestinian legitimate rights."

The statement added the detainees and captives in the Israeli prisons are exposed to the worst conditions of arrest, where Israelis prevent them from food and visits, in addition, Israeli authorities oblige them to be naked and raped.

It called for the necessity of putting an end to those inhuman practices and improving the conditions of the Palestinian detainees in the Israeli prisons.

Twenty eight Arab and Lebanese organizations signed the statement, including the Arab Lawyers' Federation and the Human Rights Organizations' Group.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Association denounced the Israeli practices against the Palestinian detainees who are observing a hunger strike.

In a statement in Kuwait, the Association said it "backs the Palestinian captives who stage a hunger strike in protest of the Israeli inhuman practices."
