Saudi Arabia-Iraq, Politics, 8/17/2004

The Saudi Arabian government yesterday expressed its strong " regret " over the deteriorated conditions in certain Iraqi areas, and called on the UN to play a greater role for halting the drastic deterioration in certain Iraqi areas and in order to stop blood shed.

The Saudi official news agency said that the cabinet, which held a session yesterday under the chairmanship of King Fahd, expressed that it is "watching events taking place in Iraq and expressed great pain and regret over the deteriorated security conditions in certain Iraqi areas and the incidents of killing or injuring innocent civilians." It called for a greater role by the UN in its efforts to halt the bloodshed.

The Saudi news agency said that " the cabinet hopes that the meeting of the Iraqi national conference will succeed in halting the fighting and concentrating on the political solution which restores back sovereignty and stability. A matter which enables all peoples of Iraq to support the Iraqi government so as to bring back stability and peace to the country.
