Two were killed in Gaza, a third in Nablus; The Palestinians maintain solidarity with hunger strike
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/17/2004

The Palestinians maintained solidarity with the open hunger strike which entered its second day in four of the Israeli occupation jails which are Nafha, alo-Sabaa, Haddarim and Shatta.

More than 3,000 Palestinians demonstrated in Gaza before the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross and handed over a memorandum to the representative of the UN secretary general demanding immediate interference to pressure on Israel in the issue of the prisoners.

In Hebron, a general strike was observed at the invitation of the Palestinian national forces. Confrontations were held by stones in Bab al-Zaweyah in the downtown of Hebron during which the Palestinian youths threw stones on the occupation forces.

For his part, the secretary general of the People's Front For The Liberation Of Palestine, detained by the Palestinian authority in Areiha jail, Ahmad Saadat, said that he will start hunger strike on August 18 in solidarity with the strike of the prisoners.

Saadat said in a statement that many of his colleagues detained with him will participate in this strike.

Meantime, Palestinian medical source in Nablus reported that one Palestinian was killed in confrontations with the occupation forces in the city.

An Israeli raid by an American Apache plane killed yesterday two Palestinians by two missiles fired on them to the east of Jabalia town in Gaza. The occupation forces alleged that the two Palestinians were preparing to launch al-Qassam missiles.

News reports quoted Palestinian sources as saying that the two killed Palestinians, Mousa Abu Hashish and Muhammad Abu Hashish, have no links to the Palestinian resistance groups.
