New accusations against Khartoum, Bashir asks the support of Darfur tribes
Sudan, Politics, 8/13/2004
Amnesty International organization, which takes London as a headquarters, renewed its accusations against the Sudanese government of violating human rights in the violent Darfur district to the west of Sudan.
The organization said in a press conference that the authorities in Darfur detained scores of citizens because they talked in the open to foreign officials who visited the area about the Jangaweid militias raids.
It described that as an organized plan to frustrate the activists in the human rights field. The organization called on Khartoum to release all detainees immediately without conditions.
This, however, came in reply to reports made by international organizations including the UN which accused Khartoum of failure in solving Darfur crisis and using helicopters in bombarding the civilians there.
Both the Sudanese government and army denied what was announced by the UN about attacks by helicopters in Darfur and said these accusations are baseless. They accused the UN of contradictory statements on the crisis. A matter which will result in misleading the public opinion, they said.
