Rashid: Lifting iron dumping fees, economic decision not political
Egypt, Economics, 8/12/2004

Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry, Rashid Mohamed Rashid said that the decisions he has recently taken on lifting dumping fees on Egypt's iron imports were economic not political ones in coordination with the Ministry's Anti-Dumping Agency and those who lodged complaints to the Minister.

Rashid in a forum organized by the State Information Service (SIS) on Tuesday, stressed that he works against any kind of monopoly whether committed by the state-owned companies or the private sector for the interest of the Egyptian citizen's right to obtain good quality commodities at affordable prices.

The Minister added that he met with the cement local producers to discuss reasons behind its price hike in a bid to strike a balance in the building materials market.

He pointed out that amalgamation of the foreign trade and industry reflects the government's keenness to modernize the industry. "Meanwhile upgrading the products' competitiveness and "made in Egypt" slogan is our base to catch globalization and compete in international markets," he said, adding that he pays attention to Upper Egypt and the industrial zones existing there.

He lauded the role played by SIS in presenting Egypt's true image on the foreign level in a way that lead to a jump in investments and commercial ties with the outside world.
