Ugarit Acoustics between Eblaic and Arabic: Symposium

Within the alMahabba Festival in Lattakia ( on the Syrian Mediterranean coast ) August 2- 12, an international symposium was held on Ugarit Studies, Ugarit Acoustics between Eblaic and Arabic, and the Ugarit News in the Amarneh Correspondence and the Excavation Activities during the Middle Bronze Age.
The lecturers underlined that the strategic and geographic site of Ugarit, Lattakia, has given the city utmost importance to a city which has emerged as the most important commercial port on the coasts of Syria that tie the east with the west.
They indicated that the city witnessed active trade activities that incurred wealth to its people and made a cultural overture to neighboring civilizations, pointing out to the cuneiform Acadian texts which were discovered in Amarneh Hill and present an evidence of the activities of the political and economic activity of Ugarit Kingdom.
Other lectures indicated that the most important feature of the oldest among the Semitic languages was the existence of sounds such as the sounds that distinguish Arabic from other languages.
The lectures added that such old sounds changed in the then modern languages while they remained intact in Eblaic and Ugariti languages.
