Turkish prime minister for boosting relations with Syria
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 8/7/2004
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdongan has announced that he is going to visit Syria soon, and his government is determined to develop relations with Syria and neighboring countries.
Following a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party Executive Bureau on Friday, he told reporters that his recent visit to Iran aimed at establishing strong relations with all the neighbouring countries, stressing that Turkey is an independent country and takes the decisions by its own free will, and doesn't care about the reactions of other states to these policies because they target no one but contribute to the security, peace, and stability in the region and in the world as a whole.
He stressed the necessity for finding a just solution to the Palestinian problem, and for establishing peace in the region.
He indicated that what is being done to some of the Turkish drivers working in Iraq, cannot be under the name of Islam.
As for the Cypriot issue, Erdogan called on the international community to lift the isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriots, pointing out to the continuation of the Turkish democratic reforms to ensure Turkey joining the European Union.
