Sudan, the UN agree a detailed plan in Darfur
Sudan-UN, Politics, 8/6/2004

The Sudanese government agreed with the UN on a work plan for 30 days over Darfur area.

Denez Cook, the spokeswoman for the UN secretary general Kofi Annan said that Yan Brunik, the special representative of Annan for Sudan's affairs and the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Ismael agreed on Wednesday to make " detailed measures that will be taken during the 30 coming days to start dismantling the militias of the Jangaweid and other illegal groups and improve the security situation in Darfur and withstanding the humanitarian crisis.." Cook also said that the " text of the agreement will be submitted to the Sudanese government for approval " before it will be put into actual implementation.

Brunik commended the commitment of the Sudanese government to its obligations of permission free access of more humanitaris aid.

For his part, the Sudanese foreign minister anounced that the plan will draw the main lines on how the government is to deal with Darfur issue within the next 30 days.

Despite of this position, the US President George Bush renewed his warning to the Sudanese government on the need of halting what he called the violence of Jangaweid militias in Darfur district. He said in statements during his ratification of the defense budget for 2005 that his country allotted a sum of 95 million dollars to provide humanitarian aids for the people of Darfur.
