New Spanish immigration law in the pipeline, Spanish FM
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 8/4/2004

Spanish foreign minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, said in Assilah Monday the final version of a new immigration law is being finalized.

The new law guarantees the respect of the dignity of workers, he told the Moroccan TV channel "2M."

He also underlined that the Spain-based Moroccan community has always enjoyed the "lion's share" when Spain carries out regularization operations of illegal immigrants, arguing that Spain considers immigration as positive, in that immigrants contribute to the development process of the European country.

Moratinos also called for a better understanding on the part of the Spanish society of immigration causes.

The Spanish official is taking part in the Moroccan Atlantic northern city in the 26th cultural festival.
