Jordan-Syria, Politics, 8/3/2004
An official source in Amman said yesterday that the Jordanian prime minister Faisal al-Fayez will visit Damascus by the beginning of next week in order o hold talks with his Syrian counterpart Naji Otari and senior Syrian officials on bilateral issues especially border violations.
The announcement of this " work visit" came after the release of five Jordanian truck drivers, Syria had held for one week, under the pretext that their trucks were transporting goods of Israeli origin to the Iraqi market in Kurdistan.
Well-informed diplomatic sources said that the question of borders and border violations will be on the forefront of the talks between al-Fayez and Otri.
The spokeswoman for the Jordanian government Asmaa al-Khuder said that the " Jordanian- Syrian talks will cover common issues of concern to the two countries and enhancing economic relations."
