Some 37,000 civilians were killed in Iraq since the invasion

One Iraqi group announced that final results show that final the number of persons killed in Iraq in the period extended since the beginning of the American invasion of Iraq in March 2003 until the end of the year reached 37,000.

" The struggle against international hegemony" group said in a statement that it held a comprehensive survey of the number of civilian victims during September and October 2003.

The census covered only civilians among the Iraqis disregarding human casualties in the lines of the Iraqi army and Iraqi police.

In a press statement, the movement's secretary general Muhammad al-Obeidi said that he guarantees the preciseness of these figures which were monitored by hundreds of activists and academics in Iraq.

"al-Kifah movement" indicated that the process of collecting statements stopped after the detention of one worker in it by the Kurdish Bashmarka militias which handed him to the American forces in October 2003.

Worthy mentioning that so far the final authentic result of civilian victims is not available, as the Iraqi Interim goverment gave no statistics -- besides the authorities gave instruction to hospitals not to give information on the number of killed persons they receive.
