Emirates withdraws a scholarship for Harvard university
United Arab Emirates-USA, Politics, 7/30/2004
An official source in Dubai said that the United Arab Emirates UAE withdrew a donation of USD 2.5 million for Harvard university which has not been used yet over a difference concerning Zayed center for studies which was accused before of campaigning for hating the Jews.
The source added that the religious studies faculty at the university did not use the money because of Jewish groups pressures to refuse it in protest of the role of the UAE in hosting the International Zayed Center for coordination and follow up. It said " we asked to return back the money.. this was made amicable.. the money was not used," noting that " a clear Zionist campaign.. made use of two lectures delivered in Sheikh Zayed Center."
The scholarship, estimated at USD 2.5 million offered by UAE President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al-Nahyan in 2000 will be allocated for giving a doctorate in Islamic studies in the religious studies faculty at the said university.
