Damascus imposes fees on Jordanian trucks
Syria-Jordan, Economics, 7/30/2004
The Syrian government yesterday decided to impose fees on loaded or empty Jordanian trucks when they enter the Syrian territories, similar to fees imposed by the Jordanian side on the Syrian trucks. This is, however, in implementation of the similar treatment scenario.
The Syrian official news agency SANA quoted the Syrian minister of transport Makram Obeid as saying that the specialized Jordanian side imposed by the beginning of 2003 very high fees on the Syrian cars which cross the borders to Jordan equal to several folds of what is imposed in Syria on all Arab and non Arab fees.
Obeid indicated that his ministry, asked without effect to reconsider fees used before on the Syrian trucks so as Syria will not be obliged to resort to the similar treatment policy. He said that this decision is interim and will be stopped when Jordan returns back to previous fees.
