Inter- Sudanese negotiations postponed
Sudan, Politics, 7/29/2004
The Sudanese government and the people's movement for the liberation of Sudan yesterday postponed the negotiations on a final cease- fire that puts an end to 21 year of wars without reaching an agreement.
The chairman of the Kenyan delegation to the talks Lazaraos Simbayo said that " negotiations were postponed, but consultations between the two sides are continuous." A member in the delegation said that the negotiations taking place in Kenya stopped " without achieving an agreement between the two sides." He added " but the mediators will continue mediation between the Sudanese government and the people's movement for the liberation of Sudan in order to maintain consultation and define a date to resume the talks."
The talks between the two sides on the cease fire started in Kenya. The two sides seek to convert an agreement signed in November 2002 into a comprehensive peace. It was announced that the final stage of the negotiations to reach a comprehensive peace will be in August, but this might be delayed from the set date.
