Al-Assad made assurances on Mubarak's health; An agreement to help the Iraqi people
During his short visit to Cairo yesterday, where he had met with President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad underlined the " importance of supporting the Iraqi people to preserving their territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and security. Sudan intends to release al-Turabi and party members
A high ranking Sudanese official said that the government intends to release the leader of the People's Congress party Hassan al-Turabi, who is detained under the charge of provoking Darfur's rebellions. Al-Turabi is now in hospital.

Allawi in Saudi Arabia
The Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi started yesterday a visit to Saudi Arabia which lasts for two days in the course of his regional tour aiming at normalizing Arab relations with Iraq. He is due to meet today ( Wednesday) in Jeddah with the US secretary of state Colin Powell who arrived in Cairo yesterday in the beginning of his tour in the region.

Allawi distances himself from statements of his defense minister on Iran; Iraqi national congress opens Saturday
It was announced officially yesterday in Baghdad that the Iraqi national congress will start its works next Saturday in spite of the request by the UN to postpone it for one month and looming by the Interim Iraqi President Ghazi Ojeil Elyawer to the possibility of postponing it for one or two weeks, while the Iraqi Interim prime minister Eyadd Allawi distanced himself from statements made by the Iraqi defense minister Hazem al-Shalaan who described Iran as Iraq's first enemy. A matter which was regretted by Tehran.

Washington rules out military option on Sudan; sanctions are before the UN Security Council
The Sudanese government has announced a state of general political and strategic alert in all its governmental departments and vowed to strongly resist any plans to send international forces to Darfur. A matter which was ruled out by the US secretary of state Colin Powell whose country is expected to call within hours for voting over a draft resolution imposing sanctions on Khartoum despite the objection of several countries of the Security Council to that.

The warning which was circulated via the e-mail and published on the website of the embassy said that " with the detention of persons in Kuwait over suspected activities against the American army in Kuwait and Iraq, the embassy wants to remind all American citizens to be cautious towards their security conditions all the time around."
