Iraqi group threatens Jordan, some 14 Americans wounded in Baghdad
Iraq-Jordan, Politics, 7/28/2004
One Iraqi group calling itself " the death group" threatened to block the international road linking Baghdad and Amman within 72 hours and to attack the Jordanian interests in retaliation to Jordan's decision to having trucks giving support to the Americans.
The group said in a taped broadcast by news reports, and showed seven veiled men wearing black, that it considers all Jordanian interests and Jordanian companies, businessmen and citizens as targets like the Americans.
But the spokesman who read the statement said that his group will not attack trucks which carry medicines and foodstuffs. He explained that the grace period for his group starts as from yesterday at 1 p. m, noting that the Jordanians will not have any excuse after that.
Meantime, an American military spokesman said that 14 American soldiers were injured in an attack by mortars shelling in al-Salaheyah quarters in the downtown of Baghdad yesterday morning and resulted in killing one Iraqi and wounding another.
In a later development, one American military spokesman announced that unidentified persons assassinated on Monday midnight the deputy chairman of al-Mahmoudeyah hospital. In Deyali governorate to the northern east of Baghdad, the American forces killed the official responsible for the Iraqi students and youths league.
