Mauritania, Politics, 7/28/2004
President of Mauritania Weld Seidi Ahmad al-Taye on Sunday evening removed nine ministers from the government of his prime minister al-Saghir Weld Imbark from their posts to replace them by nine new ministers.
The minister of the interior, and communications Cap Weld Alyo was replaced by Muhammad Ghali Weld al-Sharif Ahmad; the finance minister Mahfouz Weld Muhammad Ali was replace by Muhammad Sedya Weld Muhammad Khaled. Minister of economic and development Abdullah Suleiman Weld Suleiman was replaced by Seidi weld Dedi. Minister of culture and youth, and sport Hammoud Weld Muhammad was replaced by Muhammad Abdullah Weld Bebanneh.
The minister of national discipline al-Hassan Weld Muhammad was replaced by al-Mustafa Weld Abdullah and the minister of water and energy Sheikh Saad was breplaced y Muhammad Weld al-Taleb Amar.
The commerce and transport minister Weld Khatri was replaced by Muhammad Kaber Weld Khutri and the minister of state in charge of new technologies Fateimah Bint Muhammad al-Salek was replaced by al-Batriqa Bint Kaber Weld al-Sheikh.
Observers indicate that these changed, even though they are surprising, had nothing new regarding general policies. Weld al-Taye had criticized the governmental performance during his visit to al-Osabah province -- in the center of the country -- last week.
On the other hand, the parliamentarians of the opposition in Mauritania fiercely criticized the government of Weld al-Taye. Parliamentarian Muhammad Mahmoud Weld Lammat held the President personally responsible for what he called the economic and social conditions deterioration of citizens.
In an inaugural speech for a press conference held to this effect, Weld Lammat said that all demands of the opposition parliamentarians in the parliament chamber are met with disregard.
