European Union threatens sanctions on Sudan
Sudan-European Union, Politics, 7/27/2004
The European Union has called on the UN to impose sanctions on Sudan if it does not move to contain the crisis in Darfur.
In a meeting held on Monday in Brussels, the EU foreign ministers called on the Sudanese government to arrest leaders of Jangaweid militias and facilitate the access of humanitarian aid to vulnerable people in the district.
The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said that the international threats for his country will not help in solving the humanitarian crisis which Darfur suffers from and asked the European Union to be balanced in his statements.
