Solana and peace in the Middle East

Higher Representative of the EU Foreign Policy and Security Javier Solana stressed that the EU insisted on playing its role in the Middle East peace process whether the Israelis accepted it or not, pointing out that the EU has an important interests in the region.
In a statement issued on Monday at the start of an extraordinary meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers, he said he would resume contacts with the Palestinian side to study the possibility of achieving positive and tangible progress.
He indicated that to maintain its credibility in the Middle East, Europe has to continue exerting efforts to achieve a settlement to the situation in the region.
