Ben Ali calls for the success of the presidential elections

In a speech he delivered yesterday on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the announcement of the Tunisia's republic, the Tunisian President Zine al-Abidin Ben Ali called on the Tunisians and their political parties to " mobilize necessary efforts to make the next Presidential elections a success." These elections are due on October 4th.

In his speech Ben Ali said " we will in October have a date with a special political event. It is the Presidential and legislative elections which will be expressed by the Tunisian people freely and with full responsibility for their will and choice in the course of what we had made of amendments on certain rules of the elections magazine and what we have laid of guarantees to ensure the transparency of the electoral process."

He added "stemmed from the historical importance of these elections, I call upon our people inside and outside the country, especially political parties and other components of the civil society to ensure necessary efforts to provide these elections a success at all levels, so as the people of Tunisia will give the evidence on their maturity and prove once again their eligibility of a developed political life."
