Okaz: Solana calls for halting the construction of wall of separation
Palestine-European Union, Politics, 7/24/2004

High Representative of the European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, has demanded Israel to stop building the racial separation wall in the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that building the wall is determining the fate of the final status negotiations before they even started which is unacceptable to the EU.

In statement published by Saudi daily, Okaz, Solana stressed that all the EU 25 member states voted in favor of the resolution recently issued by the UN General Assembly regarding the illegality of the racial separation wall demanding Israel to remove it.

He expressed the EU readiness to send European observers and to send financial and technical aid to help build the Palestinian police stations.

He indicated that the situation is critical in Gaza and doesn't help protecting the Palestinian civilians calling for the necessity for effective measures in Gaza so that the international community can be able to help the Palestinians.

Regarding Iraq, Solana indicated that the EU will help the Iraqi interim government to overcome the current security problems, and will also help the Iraqis to prepare the country for the elections and to hold the Iraqi national conference, excluding the possibility of sending European troops to Iraq.
