Lebanon sentences one Moroccan to death over plans to attack the American embassy
Lebanon, Local, 7/24/2004
The Lebanese criminal court yesterday sentenced to death one Moroccan accused of stealing and killing a cashier said he wanted the money to buy weapons in order to attack the American embassy in Beirut.
According to the sentence of the court, Jamal Abdul Khaleq Bazzazi ( 23 year old) entered the Lebanese territories illegally and then contacted the Hizbullah party expressing readiness to Jihad against Israel, but the party decided to alienate him for a while of monitoring under the supervision of the Islamic Jihad organization in Palestine.
The decision of the court said that then Bazzazi decided to escape the eyes of the party and then with the help of a friend ( an Algerian) decided to rob the cashier with the aim to buy a missile in order to attack the American embassy.
In September 2002, the Lebanese police detained Bazzazi after he had killed one Cashier in al-Doura in the northern suburb of Beirut.
However, a judicial source stressed yesterday that the decision of the court is not final and can be appealed, noting that the defendant lawyer stressed that Bazazzi suffers mental instability.
