Saudi Arabia, Politics, 7/23/2004
News reports said that three among the main suspected persons including al-Qaida organization chief in Saudi Arabia Muhammad al-Ofi are ready to negotiate in order to surrender themselves to the Saudi authorities.
Sheikh Safar al-Hawali who is mediating between the Saudi authorities and persons suspected to be involved in what is called terrorism just few hours before the end of the grace period announced one month earlier that al-Ofi accepted negotiations for surrender and that there is optimism over the success of the mediation efforts.
Sheikh al-Hawali added that negotiations with two of the men on the 26 member lists started since more than one month, but they prefer not to disclose their identity.
Al-Hawali added that he has a list of 20 and 25 names of persons who want to surrender he will submit on Thursday evening to the Saudi crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz.
He indicated that 10 among persons whose names are in the list are in Saudi Arabia while between 10 to 15 are in Arab states. He stressed that Fawzan Bi Nasser Ahmad al-Fawzan surrendered to the Saudi embassy in Damascus. The Saudi authorities announced that al-Fawzan -- the 6th in the list of wanted -- arrived in Riyadh coming from Damascus.
Worthy mentioning that al-Ofi replaced Abdul Aziz al-Mugarrin after his killing on June 18 as a leader for al-Qaida in the Arab Peninsula." Information said that al- Ofi ( 38 year old) a former police man took part in the last confrontations between the security forces and activists in Riyadh last Tuesday that ended in killing two of the suspected men.
