EU' s President of Social and Economic Committee in Damascus supports the Association Agreement

President of the European Economic and Social Committee Giacomina Cassina Thursday said the Committee backs the signing of the Syrian-European Association Agreement.

In a press conference held at the EU's Commission HQ in Damascus, Cassina added that negotiations greatly progressed at the end of the last year, and the EU is determined to sign the agreement with Syria because it is a member of the Mediterranean family.

She expressed hope the signing of the Association will be as soon as possible.

"Goals of this visit is to meet representatives of the agrarian organizations in order to prepare a report and present it to the Med-Euro Summit of Social and Economic Council scheduled to be convened in Spain during next November," Cassina added.

She made clear that the Committee has stressed, at the latest summit held in Malta, commitment to enhance the conditions of peace, security, freedom of opinion, rejection of violence and to solve disputes among countries politically.
