Bush lifts American weapons sales embargo to Iraq

US president George W. Bush notified the Department Of State officially to permit Iraq to receive items, services and aids from the manufacturers of American weapons, according to the foreign aid law and the law on monitoring weapons exports.
In his memorandum to that effect, Bush said " according to that I find that providing Iraq with military items and services will support the security of the US and international security." This comes in the framework of the White House preparations for this step at presidential directives. A decision which might change the position of the current Iraqi authority into an friendly government. American officials said that Baghdad's demands for military aid and buying weapons will be discussed as each and every case individually.
A senior official at the US administration said that Bush's measure brings Iraq closer to implementing the same selling measures of weapons pursued by Washington in providing other friendly governments with weapons.
The American official added that the President decided to provide items, and military services to Iraq to encourage continuation of democratic reform and enhancing democratic establishments in the country.
